Presenting The Cavaliers 2024 Caption Heads
Cheryl Lee Promoted to Brass Caption Head, Joining Esteemed Color Guard, Percussion, Audio, and Visual Caption Leaders
The Cavaliers are thrilled to introduce our 2024 caption heads, who are all returning staff members from the previous season. We eagerly anticipate building upon last year's successful creative collaborations and cross-caption teamwork with these esteemed leaders, and we celebrate the promotion of Cheryl Lee to the position of Brass Caption Head. Revered music education veterans Randy Greenwell and Tom Dean return to The Cavaliers as well, serving as Assistant Brass Caption Heads this season.

Program Coordinator David Starnes commented on Cheryl's promotion, saying, "Cheryl brings a wealth of drum corps experience, both as a performer and instructor. She strikes the perfect balance between technician, musician, and educator, with a strong focus on individual growth while instilling high standards of musical ensemble performance. Her leadership will undoubtedly elevate the Cavaliers' brass section to new levels of excellence. I have full confidence in her vision for the long-term growth and development of our program." Cheryl previously served as a low brass technician on our staff last year and looks forward to continuing her invaluable contributions. Reflecting on her experience with The Cavaliers in 2023, she remarked, "Being a part of the Cavaliers organization last year made me a better musician, teacher, and person. I am thrilled to return and continue growing alongside some of the best educators and designers in the activity!"
Tom Dean and Randy Greenwell return in elevated assistant caption head roles. Starnes says “Each of these veteran educators brings years of experience, insight, pedagogical knowledge, and success to our membership and staff. As in all aspects of The Cavaliers, educational offerings and professional touchpoints are at the forefront of our mission for both staff and performers. It is an honor and privilege to work with these amazing educators and I know our organization will benefit greatly from their continued involvement!”
We feel truly fortunate to welcome back our accomplished battery, front ensemble, audio, color guard, and visual caption leaders. "A strong staff culture is invaluable when it comes to enhancing the member experience," noted Michael McIntosh, Percussion Caption Supervisor and Battery Arranger. "We are excited to raise the bar even higher in 2024, as this staff not only excels as teachers but also as great friends."
