Tom Dean

Tom Dean holds Music Education degrees from Ball State University (IN) and Bowling Green State University (OH). In 1993, Tom returned to his alma mater, Castle High School and began a long and fulfilling career before retiring in 2022. During his tenure at Castle High School, the bands were recognized for consistent state, regional and national musical excellence.

Under his direction, the Marching Knights were a consistent Indiana State finalist and earned several BOA Regional Championships. In 2016, the Castle Band earned its first BOA Grand National Finals appearance and in 2017 was named the BOA Class 3A National Champions and Sudler Shield Award recipient.

In addition to the marching arts, the program developed many All-State performers as the concert band, concert percussion ensembles and jazz ensembles were also consistent Indiana State Finalists. Tom has been active in the Indiana State School Music Association as a board member, executive committee member and president as well as serving on the Bands of America advisory committee.

Tom continues to be actively involved as a designer, consultant and adjudicator for many performing ensembles.
