Dr. Lane Summerlin

Dr. Lane Summerlin is an active percussionist residing in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lane is an Associate Professor at Indiana University-Indianapolis where he teaches courses in percussion.

Lane also teaches at Carmel High School where he maintains a large studio of private lesson students, instructs the marching band, and percussion ensembles.

Dr. Summerlin is the Front Ensemble Coordinator for Rhythm X, a position he has held since 2016. Prior to joining the staff at The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2022, Lane taught at the Troopers, Colts, and Crossmen. On top of managing the front ensemble, he also served as Percussion Caption Head for both the Colts and Crossmen.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Lane is a member of the Percussive Arts Society Marching and Rudimental Percussion Committee. Lane received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University, where his focus was percussion performance. His academic research is centered on the history and development of the front ensemble in Drum Corps International; his publication is the first to focus on the subject.

Dr. Summerlin also holds a Master of Music degree from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Lane proudly endorses Zildjian Cymbals, Evans drumheads, and Innovative Percussion products.
