Scott marched with The Cavaliers in 1976. He continued his music career through high school and college career at Elmhurst (IL) College and Northern Illinois University, taking the leadership role of Bands of America in 1984. He served as the organization’s President and CEO for 26 years from 1984-2010, during which time the organization grew exponentially, both in participation and financial support. Credentials include being inducted to the Music For All / Bands of America Hall of Fame in 2010, Lowell Mason Fellow, National Association for Music Education in 2010, Citation of Excellence, National Band Association in 2010, and winning the Outstanding Contributor Award by the Phi Beta Mu Bandmasters Fraternity in 2008.
