The Cavaliers Welcome Dr. Matt Stratton As 2024 Brass Consultant
The Cavaliers Arts, Performance & Education are honored to bring Matt “Doc” Stratton to the 2024 brass educational team. A 30-year veteran of the drum corps activity, Dr. Stratton will provide an invaluable educational impact to our 2024 horn line.
Dr. Stratton holds the Charlene Hawkins Chair of Instrumental Music at Olivet Nazarene University, where he serves as the Director of Bands. He has instructed many drum corps, starting his DCI teaching career with the Patriots, Magic of Orlando, and Blue Stars. He served on Bluecoats brass leadership team in 2016, helping them to win their first DCI World Championship, and most recently he served as the Brass Caption Manager at the Cadets. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a Performer’s Certificate from the State University of New York College at Fredonia, a Master of Music in Tuba Performance and a Doctor of Music in Brass Pedagogy from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Dr. Stratton is an artist clinician for Yamaha and a founding member of the Ultimate Drill Book Education team. He regularly presents clinics, provides judging services, and offers instruction on behalf of those organizations.
Dr. Stratton joins returning brass consultants Joni Perez, long time Woodlands High School Director of Bands, and Michael Pote, Director of Bands at Carmel High School. He notes “I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the incredible team assembled at The Cavaliers.”
