CAPE's 2022 Summer Sendoff: A Recap

The 2022 Summer Sendoff was a day we’ll all remember fondly for a long time.

Thank you to all of those who joined us in Lisle on July 3rd- our day wouldn’t have been the same without you!

Let’s take a look back on some of our favorite moments from this year’s Summer Sendoff.

120 organization alumni, friends, and family had the opportunity to socialize and cheer on our performers.

Rarely do we have so many CAPE family and friends together in one room. Cavaliers from past generations mingled with current Cavalier family members, sharing stories and forming new connections.

The King Cobras made their public debut, and it was a smashing success!

During the premiere live performance of CAPE’s newest ensemble, The King Cobras performed live alongside The Cavaliers drumline for all of our event attendees and passerbys. The performance was electric, leaving the entire crowd feeling energized and entertained. We know this was a moment that none of the young people involved will soon forget, and what a special moment for CAPE!

We recognized six CAPE organization legends.

In 2022, three well-deserving alumni received the Adolf DeGrauwe Legacy Award, and three incredible contributors to our organization were designated Honorary Cavaliers. Here we had the opportunity to recognize Mark Ackerson, Tom Cabanski, Chris Cunningham, Diane King, and Jennifer Parent, as well as to honor the memory of Bob Hoehn.

We raised nearly $2,000 on the spot to support the needs of our ensembles.

During a brief fund-a-need style cash auction, our generous attendees pledged funds to support things like daily gatorade for The Cavaliers, performance space rental fees for Chromium Winds, and a much-needed trailer for the King Cobras.

We enjoyed DCI’s Cavalcade of Brass from the best seats in the house: the press box-level rooftop.

We took in some drum corps and kept the party going from the rooftop level, where the Cavaliers Alumni Association hosted a great party!

And finally, we recognized this year’s Cavalier age-outs, and brought many generations of Cavaliers together onto the field for a memorable finale.

Always a special moment for Cavaliers of present and past. The current corps played a special encore performance for our alumni, and then all Cavaliers sang the corps song together. It was a night to remember for all.
