Michael Huebner

Michael Huebner joined the fine arts faculty at Kennesaw Mountain High School in Kennesaw, Georgia in 2009 and currently serves as the Director of Bands. His duties include instructing and supervising three concert ensembles, marching band, jazz band, musical pit orchestra, percussion ensemble, chamber ensembles, winterguards, and Advanced Placement Music Theory. Under Michael’s direction, the Kennesaw Mountain Wind Symphony performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Convention in 2021 & 2022, the University of Georgia’s “JanFest” in 2020, and the Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival in 2019 and 2023. Kennesaw Mountain’s Marching Band is a past regional champion and national finalist at Bands of America Championship Events. In 2012 and 2014, the band was named the AAA National Champion at the Bands of America Grand National Championships. Michael served as a guest conductor at the 2013 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic for the Kennesaw Mountain Percussion Ensemble. Under Michael’s direction, Kennesaw Mountain’s Pit Orchestra received multiple “Shuler Award” nominations and won Best Orchestra at the 2016 ceremony. Prior to employment in the Cobb County School District, Michael taught middle school and high school music in Ohio.

Michael graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in music education from Miami University and completed his master’s degree in music education at Boston University. While studying music at Miami, Michael served as the student conductor for the Symphony Orchestra and Men’s Glee Club. Over the past two decades, Michael has been affiliated with Drum Corps International in various roles. Michael was a member of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps as a brass player and drum major where he was awarded “Bluecoat of the Year” at the 2008 awards banquet. He has served as an educational clinician for the DCI drum major seminar and has coordinated numerous drum major leadership camps for high school and college students. Michael served on the faculties of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, and Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2021, Michael was a quarterfinalist nominee for the Grammy Award for Music Education. He is the previous recipient of the STAR Teacher Award by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators and has received multiple Citations of Excellence from the National Band Association. He is an active educational adjudicator and clinician presenting pedagogical and leadership clinics around the world including at St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Kuching, Malaysia and the Rastede Musiktage in Germany. Michael’s professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educators Association, National Band Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Beta Mu.
