about our Summer Tour
OUR SEASON
Our season begins in mid-May with about 4 weeks of rehearsals (known as “pre-tour”). Rehearsals are typically 10 hours a day, every day. Members do get several blocks of free time and a opportunities to do their laundry. This is by far the most tedious and challenging portion of the season.
In mid-June we begin traveling and performing. We typically perform at approximately 30 shows throughout the country, ending with the Drum Corps International (DCI) World Championships in Indianapolis on the second Saturday in August.
TRAVEL
The Cavaliers typically drive about 10,000-13,000 miles each summer. We travel in five coach buses; three are for the members, one bus for the instructional staff, and one bus for our volunteers.
Our convoy also includes three semi–trailers. Two carry all of our uniforms and equipment and the third is a mobile kitchen used to prepare 4 meals a day for our 165 members plus staff and volunteers. It features a walk-in refrigerator and freezer, washer/dryer, a shower, and drink system that is the envy of DCI.
HEALTH & MEDICAL
The Cavaliers travel with a nursing staff at all times and have an extensive network of healthcare professionals to support our needs. Member safety, health, and well-being is the priority for our entire team..
All members are required to submit proof of a sports physical, a medical history form, and health insurance information to the medical staff.
If your son has special dietary needs, include that information in the Registration so that we may best accommodate his requirements.
