Mike Pickrell

Mike Pickrell is the Director of Bands at Richland High School in North Richland Hills, TX. He has been fortunate to work with incredible students and directors throughout his career, and he especially enjoys helping students find the same excitement and sense of community that drew him to music.

Under Mike’s direction, the Richland High School Concert Bands have earned UIL Superior ratings every year, with the Varsity Band named a 2023 TMEA 5A State Honor Band Finalist. The Richland Marching Band is also a multiple year UIL State Finalist, multiple-time Bands of America Regional and Super Regional Finalist, and BOA Region Champion.

Before Richland, Mike taught at Williamstown Senior and Junior High School in Kentucky and began his teaching career at Keller High School in 2007. He is also a former member and instructor with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.

Outside the band room, Mike enjoys spending time with his family. He lives with his beautiful wife Sharon, loving daughter Auden, and rambunctious son Paul. For Mike the most rewarding part of teaching at the Cavaliers is not simply the performances and accolades, but the opportunity to build relationships, help the members grow, and share in the experiences that make music and marching so meaningful.
