Dr. Cameron Kubos
Dr. Cameron Kubos is the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands and Spirit Groups for the University of Houston, where he directs the Spirit of Houston Marching Band and Cougar Brass Basketball Bands as well as conducting the Symphonic Winds.
A graduate of the Moores School of Music, Dr. Kubos earned three degrees from the University of Houston in trumpet performance and conducting. Dr. Kubos' teachers have included David Bertman, John Benzer, Eddie Green, Noe Marmolejo, Mark Hughes, Jim Vassallo, and Mark Barton.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Kubos spent three years serving as the Assistant Director of the Spirit of Houston Marching Band and Jazz Ensembles, assisting with the marching band, conducting the Symphonic Band, and overseeing the Cougar Brass Basketball Bands. In the jazz area, he worked under Mr. Noe Marmolejo serving as the producer of the annual Moores School of Music Jazz Festival as well as being the director of the Texas Music Festival Jazz Institute.
Dr. Kubos regularly works with Houston area bands as well as serving as a clinician, presenter, and guest conductor nationally, including presentations at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention and the CBDNA Athletic Band Symposium. In addition to his work as an educator, he has continued an active playing career which has included work with the Houston Symphony.
