CAVALIERS ANNOUNCE NEW CO-ED PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE, CHROMIUM WINDS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Orginally posted July 19, 2016 by Chris Lugo)
(ROSEMONT, ILLINOIS) – The Cavaliers are pleased to introduce Chromium Winds (CW), the new co-ed performance ensemble that will represent the Cavalier Family in the Winter Guard International (WGI) Winds division starting with the upcoming 2017 season.
As The Cavaliers’ organization works to grow and enhance its educational impact in the Chicagoland area with programs like The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps, Cavaliers Indoor Percussion, and GearWORKS, Chromium Winds will serve young male and female students looking for a challenging performance outlet in the newest division of the indoor activity, WGI Winds.
“I’m so proud that The Cavaliers are investing in educational and performance opportunities that will serve more students in our community,” said Chris Lugo, the organization’s executive director. “We’re excited to explore excellence and creativity in WGI Winds with Chromium, and I’m confident that we’ll deliver the high-quality experience with our family’s newest performance ensemble."
As described on WGI.org, WGI Winds presents marching music ensembles in the same performance environment as indoor color guard and percussion ensembles to showcase their musicianship with any kind of instrumentation.
Two divisions of competition are offered, one for scholastic groups and another for all-age Independent ensembles. Chromium Winds will compete as an Independent ensemble, with the classification of A, Open, or World level determined later in the fall of 2016.
Jordan Yi and Bennett Konstans will serve as Chromium’s inaugural co-directors, building on teaching experience with The Cavaliers and local music programs to lead an administrative and educational team aiming to embody the Cavalier and GearWORKS philosophies.
"I am honored to be a part of a wonderful organization so intently focused on student learning through the performing arts,” said Yi. “Our team is having fun as we set the stage for a memorable and meaningful performance experience for young men and women."
“Jordan and Bennett are hitting the ground running as they help launch Chromium for The Cavaliers’ organization,” Lugo added. “I can’t think of a better team of leaders who will guide and shape this ensemble now and into the years ahead."
