The Cavaliers Announce Levi Chavis as Education Director

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps is proud to announce the appointment of Levi Chavis as their new Education Director.

Chavis, who has served as the corps’ Visual Caption Supervisor for the past two years, brings decades of premier drum corps experience and top-tier music education leadership to this expanded role. As Education Director, he will oversee the corps' educational philosophy, curriculum, and instructional strategy, ensuring world-class instruction across all captions while fostering an environment dedicated to student growth, performance excellence, and personal development.

"Levi has been an invaluable leader on our education team, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to our students, and the standards of excellence that define The Cavaliers," stated Daniel Belcher, Corps Director. "His extensive background as an educator, clinician, program coordinator, and adjudicator makes him uniquely suited to guide our educational vision and execution into the future."

Chavis brings a wealth of experience in the marching arts and music education. He spent 15 years as a high school band director across Texas, leading programs to consistent finalist placements at Bands of America (BOA) Super Regionals, BOA Grand Nationals, the UIL State Marching Band Contest, and the TMEA State Honor Band competition. Chavis was named the Outstanding Young Bandmaster by the Texas chapter of Phi Beta Mu in 2015.

His history with The Cavaliers dates back over two decades, having marched in the corps from 2004 to 2006 and served on the corps' brass staff from 2006 to 2009, before transitioning to leadership roles across the drum corps activity, including Assistant Visual Caption Manager at Santa Clara Vanguard (2010–2015) and Ensemble Coordinator at the Madison Scouts (2022–2023).

"I am incredibly honored to step into the role of Education Director at The Cavaliers," said Chavis. “My experience as a member of the corps changed the trajectory of my life. Returning to the organization that gave so much to me has felt like coming home again and I’m excited to influence the next generation of Cavaliers from this new position!”

Outside of his work with The Cavaliers, Chavis is an active national adjudicator for Bands of America, works as a clinician, consultant, and program coordinator for marching programs nationwide, and serves on the team at SASI Leadership. He resides in the Houston area with his wife and their two daughters.
