Bret Kuhn and Richard Saucedo Inducted into the DCI Hall of Fame

ROSEMONT, IL, APRIL 27, 2022 – Today, Drum Corps International unveiled their three 2022 Hall of Fame inductees, to be awarded at this year’s DCI World Championships. Of the three winners, two are former leaders within the Rosemont Cavaliers organization: Bret Kuhn, percussion caption head and arranger, and Ricard Saucedo, composer and arranger.

Established in 1985, the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame honors the outstanding achievements of marching music's passionate and committed administrators, creators, instructors, judges, and others who have made significant contributions through years of hard work, innovation, and direction.

Bret Kuhn worked with the percussion section of The Cavaliers as an instructor and show designer in the 1990s and early 2000s, a time period during which the organization won six DCI World Championships and five high percussion caption awards. He has a reputation for innovation within the percussion world, and he is widely known and respected in the drum corps community. “Bret’s ‘whatever it takes’ attitude was particularly vital to the innovation of the 2003 all-original composition show, ‘Spin Cycle,’” 2015 DCI Hall of Fame inductee Scott Koter said. “The score included polymetric intricacies and world music subtleties that many still consider groundbreaking today.” Today, Kuhn serves as the Staff Educational Director with the Cavaliers Arts and Performance Organization, and also the Coordinator of GearWorks, the organization’s series of educational seminars and events.

Richard Saucedo worked alongside Kuhn in the early 2000s as the corps’ brass arranger and composer. He wrote original music performed by The Cavaliers in some of their most well known shows of all time, including “Four Corners” (2001), “Frameworks” (2002), “Spin Cycle” (2003) and “Machine” (2006). Saucedo’s work with The Cavaliers continues to shape the shows being written and performed today. John Meehan, brass arranger for the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps and fellow Hall of Fame inductee, says “For years after those early 2000s Cavaliers corps — and even today — I would find myself referencing those brass arrangements, and how they simultaneously complemented the visual and percussion design as well as stood out on their own without ever feeling forced or contrived.”

Those working with the Cavaliers today are thrilled with this well-deserved honor for Kuhn and Saucedo. Monte Mast, Executive Director of the Cavaliers Arts and Performance Organization, notes "I have known Richard and Bret for a long time and am thrilled that their contributions to the activity are being recognized. Their collaboration created some of the most iconic musical moments in the history of drum corps and it is only fitting that they enter the Hall of Fame together. Their willingness to mentor staff and students resulted in their influence reaching every corps in some way. As significant as their contributions are, they are even better people. The Cavaliers could not be more excited to see them honored in this way.”

The Rosemont Cavaliers are gearing up for their 2022 summer season, which will conclude at the Drum Corps International World Championships on August 13th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
