The Cavaliers Announce 2022 Drum Majors

The Cavaliers are proud to announce our 2022 Drum Major team.  These three veteran members will lead the corps onto the field this summer.

“One of the cornerstones of our program at The Cavaliers has always been student leadership, said Dr. Michael Vaughn, Corps Director. “We rely heavily on our student leaders, not just on the field but, off the field to promote and model the culture of dedication, teamwork, and discipline we seek to foster among our members.”

“The young men that have been selected to serve as our 2022 Drum Majors embody, collectively and as individuals, that culture, and are extremely well-equipped to guide this year's drum corps towards its pursuit of excellence.  I'm very excited for these three gentlemen and look forward to working closely with them to build something special at The Cavaliers.”

MEET THE DRUM MAJORS

Leading The Cavaliers onto the field will be Drum Major, Garrett Sullivan. A four-year veteran of the tuba section, “Rookie of the Year” in 2018, and now in his fifth and final season with the corps, Garrett looks forward to “continuing to push this group to its greatest potential.”  A native of Florida, Garrett attends Florida Atlantic University where he is a junior majoring in Music Education.  In addition to tuba, Garrett plays bass guitar, sings, and straps on a bass drum as a member of the Florida Atlantic Marching Owls.  Additionally, he is a self-professed expert on Hawaiian shirts. With his good-natured sense of humor, reliability, and proven leadership abilities, Garrett was a natural choice to step onto the podium in 2022. “Garrett has one of the best work ethics in the entire corps and has always been a model member,” said Drew Dickey, Brass Caption Head. “He sets the example for everyone else.”  On being selected drum major, Garret remarked: “The Cavaliers has been my home for the last five years.  I’m thrilled to be spending my age-out as part of the drum major team and helping to lay the foundation for a great season and even better things to come.”

Assistant Drum Major, Jackson Ham, came to The Cavaliers as a baritone/euphonium player in 2020, having previously marched at Jersey Surf.  From Marple, Pennsylvania, he currently attends West Chester University where he majors in music education and is a student coordinator for the West Chester University Band.  On becoming a Cavalier, Jackson says: “Being in The Cavaliers was always a dream and something that I knew I wanted to be a part of. The audition process was a challenge for me; something to prove that I was able to be part of a legacy.”  Despite his desire and zeal, Jackson was unsuccessful in his first attempt to make the corps. “In 2019 I auditioned but ended up being cut.  But the following season I came back even more determined and was offered a contract.”   He credits several members of the corps, including 2019 Drum Major, Jacob Armstrong, and 2021 Drum Major, Joey Salinas, as being influential in his decision to re-audition.  “They reached out to me during my audition process and really helped me with gaining confidence.  And they showed me why they had been chosen as representatives of The Cavaliers.”
