RICHARD SAUCEDO
2024 Honorary Cavalier

Richard Saucedo is well-known in the music and marching band world. At Carmel High School, in Indiana, he was the Director of Bands and Performing Arts Department Chairman. During his 31-year tenure there, his ensembles received national recognition. The Carmel Marching Greyhounds finished in the top ten of Bands of America Grand Nationals for 17 years, and were BOA Champions in 2005 and 2012. His experience and knowledge transferred very well to his time with the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps.

Richard became brass arranger & composer for the Cavaliers with the iconic 2000 program "Niagara Falls." Starting in 2001, he harnessed his talent for composing, and wrote entirely original scores for the next 3 seasons. His compositions such as the 2002 "Frameworks" show enabled the Cavaliers to take a more symphonic sound to the drum corps field, helping to push the activity to a new level of musicianship and clarity of sound. He continued to write for the Cavaliers brass through 2009, and was instrumental in helping the corps earn DCI World Championship titles in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2006.

He retired from Carmel High School in 2013 and has remained active as an adjudicator, clinician, educator, and composer. In 2023, for the Cavalier's 75th anniversary season, he returned to be brass arranger. Whenever he is working with the corps, he shows a deep connection to the energy and spirit that all Cavaliers have, and through his music he shows how much love he has for this drum corps and for the entire CAPE organization. From Matt O'Brien: "His consistency and commitment to excellence with The Cavaliers stands as a model that the members can see for themselves, and I can't think of anyone attached to us right now more deserving of this recognition."
