TRAVIS SPEICE
2023 HONORARY CAVALIER
Nomination Letter:
”I have had the honor of working with Travis Speice for over half of my color guard career. He has been my instructor, my fellow technician, and my caption head/manager. Travis is easily one of the most caring, knowledgeable, and respectful educators that I have ever witnessed, and I can guarantee that he has left a lasting impression on every student and staff member that has worked with him. His love for the members and the activity is unmatched, and his commitment to excellence is inspiring.” -Tyler Richards
During his 12 years working for The Cavaliers, Travis went above and beyond in every way possible to make sure that the corps was taken care of. Whether it was teaching the members, coordinating the staff, fixing equipment, or re-taping styrofoam props, Travis was somehow able to complete every job he was given with ease. And on top of the millions of logistical tasks he juggled on a daily basis, he was always a source of positivity and encouragement for the members. Even during the most difficult times on the road, Travis always reminded the color guard that “it’s a beautiful night for drum corps.”
Many who have worked with Travis had positive things to say about his work ethic and attitude. A few of those quotes are below:
“I spent 8 seasons teaching alongside and working closely with Travis. Every day of that time, he was an outstanding colleague: eminently professional, prepared, collaborative and supportive of his teaching team. I don’t think I can overstate how much his work enabled me to be a successful instructor over the years. I know he had the same positive impact on members of the guard this past decade. He sets a teaching example that we all aspire to, but few of us actually achieve with students. On top of all that, time and again, he gave his time and attention to the details that got the entire corps on the field smoothly, looking great, and set up for success. He is one of the very best I’ve ever been lucky enough to work with!” - Robin Wells
“In the course of more than a decade working together at Pride of Cincinnati and The Cavaliers, I have borne witness to one of the most caring, dependable, and professional colleagues in my career. His dedication to his craft is surpassed only by his commitment to the performers. Travis laughs easily, is usually one step ahead of the rest of the staff, and provides needed counsel to all of us. I often forget that Travis did not march at The Cavaliers, because his presence and influence have been felt nonstop for over a decade there. The privilege of being Honorary Cavalier would be a well deserved accolade, and I am so grateful to Travis for everything he did for the Corps.” - Michael Gaines
Working with Travis has been a highlight for many Cavaliers alumni and staff. We are thrilled to recognize Travis as an Honorary Cavalier.
