2022 AD LEGACY AWARD WINNER

Nominated By:

Nomination Letter:
Bob Hoehn was the first “national” member of the corps, commuting from Miami, Florida starting in 1959. His family ultimately relocated to the Chicago area to allow him to more fully enjoy his passion for the Cavaliers. He aged-out in 1962, after also winning the national baritone solo competition. He immediately graduated into the corps management as a quartermaster, followed by becoming personnel manager, corps manager, VP, and finally corps director in the early 1970s. Only because of his parents’ health situation did he have to end his fully engaged service to the corps as they relocated back south, this time to Georgia (where he became the co-founder of the Spirit of Atlanta several years later).

His 15+ years of management service to the corps did not stop him from continuing to be a friend and mentor to many, many “city kids” who never new the beauty of classical music, the taste of a home cooked meal, the hug of a mother, or the guidance of a father. Bob and his parents provided all that and more, including housing many members over the years who had no where else to turn from time to time.

Bob was the definition of a “brother” in the brotherhood.  Numerous alumni contemporaries of Bob's, while he was a member and/or part of the management team, have fully endorsed his candidacy and, as importantly, his character. They include Tony Rinella, George Barr, Roger Roussell, and Paul Milano.
