Matthew Hernandez is currently a Graduate Trumpet Assistant at Valdosta State University where he is pursuing a Master's Degree in Trumpet Performance. He assists Dr. Jesse Cook with duties within the Trumpet Studio and the Brass Program. In Valdosta, Ga., Matthew performs regularly with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and subs regularly with the Albany Symphony Orchestra in Albany, Georgia.
Matthew received his Bachelors in Music Performance from the University of Texas at El Paso in the Summer of 2016. During his time at the University of Texas at El Paso, Matthew studied with Nancy Taylor. In the Summer of 2015, he attended the Sewanee Summer Music Festival where he performed with the Sewanee Festival Orchestra.
Matthew performed as a member with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in 2010 and 2011. He then went on to perform as a member on lead trumpet with Carolina Crown in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Matthew is excited to be joining The Cavaliers' Brass Staff for the first time.
Aside from performing and teaching trumpet, Matthew enjoys swimming, running, and watching sports while the cats sit on his lap.
