Matthew Hernandez is currently a Teaching Assistant at Texas Tech University where he is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance. He assists Dr. Andrew Stetson with duties within the Trumpet Studio. In Lubbock, Matt holds an active private studio and teaches trumpet at various public schools.
Matthew received his Masters of Music in Performance from Valdosta State University in the Spring of 2018 and his Bachelors of Music in Performance from the University of Texas at El Paso in the Summer of 2016. In the Summer of 2015, he attended the Sewanee Summer Music Festival where he performed with the Sewanee Festival Orchestra. Matthew has performed with orchestras including the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony Orchestra in Albany, Georgia, and the Juarez Symphony Orchestra in Mexico.
Matthew performed as a member with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in 2010 and 2011. He then went on to perform as a member on lead trumpet with Carolina Crown in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Matthew is excited to be returning for his second season with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.
Aside from performing and teaching trumpet, Matthew enjoys swimming, running, and watching sports.
