A native of Chicago, Erick Eckstrom now lives in Colorado Springs performing as a member of the United States Air Force Academy Band. Eckstrom holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Illinois and a Master of Music degree from Indiana University. While pursuing his masterʼs degree he studied with Kevin Bobo, John Tafoya, Steve Houghton, and Michael Spiro. During this time, he placed 2nd in the Black Swamp Percussion competition as well as placing 3rd in the PASIC solo percussion competition. As a member of the USAFA Band, Eckstrom performs with the modern pop group,

Blue Steel in addition to Academy Winds chamber ensemble and the Concert Band. Out and about in town, he works with many jazz groups including the Latin jazz quintet Nube Nueve and Colin Truesdell. As a member, Eckstrom performed with The Cavaliers front ensemble from 2011-2013, as well as the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2010. Erick is extremely excited to begin his fifth season as an instructor with the 2019 Cavaliers front ensemble!
