A trumpet player, Barry Janicula is the Assistant Director of Bands at Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas. Mr. Janicula’s past professional employment includes similar director positions in the Azle and Lewisville I.S.D.. From 2011 – 2014, Mr. Janicula served as Director of Bands district wide in the Alvord I.S.D.. During his time at Alvord, Mr. Janicula participated in the Macy’s Day Parade with the Great American Marching Band as well as his bands performing at the 2012 Sugar Bowl and with the U.S. Air Force Academy Band.

From 2006 – 2007, Mr. Janicula completed his Master’s Degree in Applied Music and served as graduate assistant at the University of Houston. He played for the Moores School of Music Wind Ensemble, guest performed with the 2007 T.M.E.A. 5A Honor Band, assisted in undergraduate music education courses, supervised student teachers, and assisted direction of the Cougar Basketball Band and Cougar Marching Band. During his time at Houston, Mr. Janicula studied conducting under the mentorship and tutelage of David Bertman as well as Tom Bennett, John Benzer, and Eddie Green.

Mr. Janicula received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Elon University in 2006. During his time at Elon, Mr. Janicula served as drill designer and teaching assistant for the Fire of the Carolinas Marching Band. In addition, he was honored to guest perform with the U.S. Army Field Band and was the recipient the U.S. Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award and Schilke Trumpet Scholarship.

Active in the drum corps activity, Mr. Janicula is a current member of the visual staff for The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps since 2016 and held a similar position in 2006. Recently, he served as the Visual Caption Head in 2015 and Assistant Brass Caption Head in 2014 for the Boston Crusaders. As a marching member, he toured with three World Class drum corps: Carolina Crown (2002), The Bluecoats (2003), and The Cavaliers (2004 – 2005). During this time, he won gold medal at the D.C.I. World Class Championships in 2004 as a marching member and again in 2006 as a visual staff member. Mr. Janicula was also a gold medal recipient in the D.C.I. Ensemble contest in 2005 with The Cavaliers. He has also been a part of numerous caption awards, including 2 John Brazale Best Visual Performance Awards, 2 Don Angelica Best General Effect Awards, and 1 Jim Ott Best Brass Performance Award.

In addition to extensive touring in the U.S., Barry traveled to Japan in 2004 on a Yamaha sponsorship to participate with the Aimachi Marching Band. Mr. Janicula has also served as program and drill designer for two World Class European Drum Corps’: Beatrix’ from the Netherlands (2008 – 2010) and Besana Marching Band from Italy (2009 – 2010). In 2008, his design won D.C.I. International Class World Championships and many other Drum Corps Netherlands circuit contests, including a silver medal at Drum Corps Europe World Championships, and was a D.C.E. World Class Finalist in 2010 for the first time in the corps’ history. In 2009, Barry traveled to Holland to participate in the World Music Contest, an international music contest held every 4 years in Kerkrade, the Netherlands.
